1. Why We Have Content Guidelines

UnboundQuests is a home for African and diasporic stories. We want to support expressive, culturally meaningful, historically grounded, experimental, and commercially diverse storytelling while also protecting readers, creators, contributors, and the platform itself.

These Content Guidelines explain the types of material, behavior, and platform misuse that may be restricted, reviewed, removed, age-gated, or rejected.

2. Scope

These guidelines apply to manuscripts, chapter uploads, metadata, descriptions, covers, reviews, comments, appeals, editorial marketplace activity, contributor submissions, support communications, and any other content or conduct connected to UnboundQuests.

3. Our Moderation Approach

We use a combination of platform rules, automated checks, contextual review, and human judgment. Some workflows may include AI-assisted screening, cultural-sensitivity filters, editorial review layers, and appeal mechanisms.

Context matters. Literary, historical, journalistic, educational, and critical uses may be assessed differently from glorifying, exploitative, deceptive, or abusive uses.

4. Content That May Be Restricted or Removed

Content may be restricted, removed, age-gated, rejected, or otherwise limited if it includes unlawful material, exploitative sexual content, child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, violent extremism, direct incitement, credible threats, fraud, impersonation, or clearly harmful deception.

We may also act against content that promotes self-harm, targeted harassment, hateful abuse, or severe exploitation, especially where it creates a safety risk or violates applicable law.

5. Sensitive and Mature Content

Mature themes, difficult histories, conflict, sexuality, trauma, religion, race, politics, and cultural identity may appear in stories on UnboundQuests. Their presence alone does not automatically violate policy.

However, creators must present metadata, warnings, covers, and positioning responsibly. We may require content warnings, audience restrictions, moderation review, or other guardrails depending on severity and context.

6. Hate, Harassment, and Abuse

We do not allow targeted abuse, dehumanization, incitement of hatred, or coordinated harassment against protected groups or identifiable individuals.

Contextual depiction of conflict, prejudice, or historical injustice inside a literary work may be reviewed differently from content that actively promotes harm.

7. Fraud, Misrepresentation, and Platform Manipulation

You may not submit stolen work, plagiarized material, deceptive metadata, fake contributor claims, misleading publication claims, fraudulent payout information, manipulated reviews, or abusive attempts to game discovery, moderation, or rewards systems.

You may not impersonate a creator, a publisher, a reviewer, an editor, or any other person or entity.

8. Intellectual Property and Rights

You must have the rights necessary to upload, publish, distribute, narrate, translate, or otherwise use content on the platform.

We may remove or restrict content where rights ownership is disputed, unclear, or credibly challenged.

9. Covers, Metadata, and Discoverability

Titles, descriptions, tags, genres, thumbnails, covers, and promotional copy must not be misleading, deceptive, or structured primarily to evade moderation or exploit discovery systems.

We may require corrections where metadata is intentionally misleading, exploitative, or inappropriate for the audience or product category.

10. Editorial Marketplace Conduct

Editors, narrators, translators, designers, and other marketplace participants must act professionally, lawfully, and honestly.

Harassment, fraud, plagiarism, false credentials, abusive conduct, deceptive portfolios, and exploitative client behavior may lead to restriction, removal, or account action.

11. Reader Reviews and Community Contributions

Reader reviews and public-facing community activity must remain respectful, truthful, and relevant. We may remove spam, harassment, abusive conduct, manipulated engagement, or conduct intended primarily to damage creators unfairly.

12. Cultural Context and Sensitivity

UnboundQuests exists to support stories from Africa and its descendants across the world. We recognize that language, religion, ethnicity, migration, colonial history, and identity carry deep contextual meaning.

We may review content with attention to cultural sensitivity, contextual harm, and the difference between representation, critique, and abuse.

13. Age-Gating, Warnings, and Access Restrictions

We may apply warnings, soft restrictions, age-gating, discovery limits, reduced promotion, or other access controls to some content based on severity, product category, legal obligations, or safety considerations.

14. Enforcement Actions

If content or conduct violates these guidelines, we may take action including warning, metadata correction request, visibility reduction, age-gating, rejection, removal, payout hold, marketplace suspension, feature restriction, account suspension, or termination.

15. Appeals and Re-Review

Where applicable, users may be able to appeal moderation decisions or respond to revision requests. Submitting an appeal does not guarantee reversal, but we aim to review credible appeals fairly and in context.

16. Evolving Standards

These guidelines may evolve as the platform grows, legal requirements change, trust and safety risks change, and our understanding of platform harms and creator needs deepens.
